Single Whip

 

If you are a tai chi beginner, or learning about tai chi and qigong primarily through online and video resources, have you ever looked at some of the postures and wondered “What in the world is the original intent of this posture?”   I know I sure have, which is one reason why I appreciate tutorials as they relate to martial applications.

Now I understand what the “hook” in the hand is all about!

 

By seeing and understanding the applications of this posture, you are better able to perform it, making your practice more meaningful and productive.

Single Whip (單鞭 dān biān) is a common posture found in most forms of t’ai chi ch’uan. Typically at the end of the posture the left hand is in a palm outward
