Tai Chi Long Pole

I found an interesting form of Chen tai chi called Long Pole and wanted to see how it is different from other weapons I have seen.   So I chose this video because it is a clip from competition, which I presumed, would be careful to score close to an accepted practice for Long Pole.  Below this (further down) a very cool  video clip from a movie where Long Pole is being used.

Notice how the pole vibrates and shakes so much more due to the increased length of the pole.  Imagine how much more difficult it would be to hold that still.  Also, I imagine one’s wrists, arms and shoulders would be burning when practicing with this tai chi long pole.  My wrists ache just watching this!

Next (below) is Sifu Chen Juntuan  with a video clip from what I think is the Chen Village movie, where he is doing Long Pole.  Notice how much more control he has of the pole – many years of training and a lot of strength built up!

Finally, here is another demonstration, though this one by Grandmaster Cheng Jincai .   At the beginning of the video Grandmaster Cheng introduces a few points.   He is difficult to understand, as his English is very broken, but I truly applaud him for doing his best.
